From Summer Lavender Harvest to Fall Markets 🍂
It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying the long, hot days of summer. One minute we were planting, weeding, and preparing for the lavender harvest, and the next we were brewing a cup of pumpkin spice coffee!
Somehow, pumpkin spice, apple pies, and those first crisp mornings have a way of reminding us that autumn has arrived.
With another busy season on the farm behind us—and our fall markets quickly approaching—we wanted to pause for a moment and share some of what we've been up to at Hickory Run Lavender Farm.
Growing Lavender & Preparing the Farm for Winter
Growing lavender always teaches us something new. This year brought plenty of work to the lavender fields. We've remediated five of our lavender rows so far, with more still to come, as we continue improving the soil and preparing the farm for colder months ahead. Soon, the frost covers will come out and another season of tucking in the lavender for winter will begin.
But lavender wasn't the only thing keeping us busy.
Our honeybees had quite a season too! We captured a swarm, split two of our hives, cared for our growing colonies, and harvested honey. Now our attention is turning toward helping the bees prepare for winter, including adding protection around their hives for the cold months ahead.
There is something special about watching the farm move through the seasons. The lavender blooms, the bees get to work, the pollinators arrive, and before we know it, it's time to harvest.
Lavender Harvest: From the Field to the Still 🌿
After months of tending the plants, our lavender harvest began. We gathered the lavender from the field and fired up the still to distill our lavender essential oil.
That moment always feels a little magical. So much work goes into caring for the plants before a single drop of lavender essential oil ever makes its way into one of our handcrafted products.
We also had the opportunity to open the farm twice in August for plant sales and welcome visitors back into the fields. And while one growing season may be winding down, we're already making plans for what's next—including expanding our fields in the future.
You Asked, and We Listened: Our New Tallow Soap Collection
Over the years, several customers have asked us about offering a soap made without palm oil. We listened—and this fall we're excited to introduce our new handcrafted beef tallow soap collection.
It's something new for Hickory Run Lavender Farm, and we're excited for you to finally see it.
And where better to introduce what we've been working on than at two wonderful fall events?

We're excited to bring Hickory Run Lavender Farm to two wonderful fall markets in Pennsylvania this September.
Our first stop is Yardley Harvest Day on Saturday, September 19, from 10 AM–5 PM in Downtown Yardley, PA.
We'll be bringing your Hickory Run Lavender Farm favorites along with some of our newest creations. Stop by, say hello, and be among the first to check out our new tallow soap collection!
Then, on Saturday, September 26, from 10 AM–6 PM, we'll be participating in the first Hickory Run Fall Fest at the Sand Spring Day Use Area of Hickory Run State Park.
This one is especially close to home—and close to our hearts. We're looking forward to spending the day talking about lavender, honeybees, pollinators, farming, and the beautiful natural world we're fortunate enough to call home.
As One Season Ends, Another Begins 🌱
Farming has a wonderful way of reminding us that there is always something changing. There is a season for planting, a season for harvesting, a season for creating—and, eventually, a season for rest.
As we head into autumn, we're grateful for everyone who visited the farm, purchased a plant, followed along with our adventures, supported our small business, or simply stopped to smell the lavender.
We hope we'll see some of you this fall.
